Learn how to prepare homemade syrups with flax, another with onion, and a last with orange and turmeric.

Some general recommendations

  • Homemade syrups are traditionally based on sugar, which works as a preservative. But we recommend that you use bee honey, brown sugar or brown sugar instead of white sugar. They are much more nutritious and have more benefits for our health than white sugar which is rather harmful.
In the recipes to follow, we will simply mention the possibility of sweetening your syrups, each person being able to choose the product that suits him the most.
  • Once you have prepared your syrups, store them in a tightly closed glass container, preferably opaque (or wrap them so that light does not enter directly), and in the refrigerator.

Since they don’t contain any preservatives other than sugar or honey, we recommend that you eat them within two weeks. Since they’re easy to prepare, it’s best if you make them just when you need them.

  • The recommended dose is one tablespoon on an empty stomach to prevent the onset of disease, and three tablespoons per day, before each meal, as an intensive treatment.
  • We recommend that you always consult a doctor before carrying out any treatment, even if it is natural.

Flax syrup

These homemade syrups are especially recommended for people with a dry cough, and also for those who suffer from regular constipation.

You will need the following ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons of flax seeds
  • Lemon juice
  • A sweetening product (to your taste)

Soak the seeds in a cup of water overnight. Then, filter and mix the water with the same amount of lemon juice, and the same amount of sweetener.

The seeds that remain can be used in other recipes: soups, stews, pasta, salads, omelets, etc.

Onion syrup

It is a natural remedy that allows you to benefit from all the properties of onion. It is also recommended for those who suffer from a cough, or who begin to feel the symptoms of a cold.

You will need the following ingredients:

  • Some onions
  • Some water
  • A sweetening product (to your taste)

Cut the onions into small pieces, and mix them with the same amount of water, as well as the sugar or honey you have chosen.
Put this mixture in a saucepan with a lid, then cook over medium heat for three hours. Once done, filter the liquid, put it in a container, and your syrup is ready.

Orange and turmeric syrup

These homemade syrups are delicious, and can fight all types of diseases. It is therefore important to prepare a good quantity of it.

Turmeric is an exceptional spice, which has numerous anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.

You will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 liter of organic orange juice (keep the peels)
  • 1 tablespoon of ground turmeric
  • Sweetening product (1 kg or to your taste)

Put the juice, turmeric and sugar to cook in a sufficiently large saucepan. When everything starts to boil, turn off the heat and let the mixture cool.

When it is no longer hot, add the peelings of the grated oranges or cut into small pieces.

Leave to macerate for 24 hours. The next day, filter everything and bottle.

Some foolproof tips for making your own homemade syrups

You can add a few more ingredients to your homemade syrups to increase their effects. We recommend the following foods:

  • A few drops of propolis, which helps stimulate our immune defenses.
  • Powdered ginger: ideal for eliminating phlegm, raising body temperature, and lowering fever.
  • Oregano essential oil (for oral use): this oil helps eliminate pathogens present in the body. Add a few drops to the syrup, and shake it well, because its very strong flavor can become irritating if consumed in too much quantity.
  • Cinnamon powder: another spice with stimulating and aphrodisiac properties.
